Kei na Okay

September 1, 2008
I know. That title is cheesy. I posted this piece originally on my tennis blog and I am re-posting this once more. Can Nishikori sustains his run in the open?

In the absence of a local talent to cheer on, an up-and-coming Japanese player is indeed a welcome development. Kei Nishikori is a new star in the scene and has a title tucked under his belt. For his first title, he took the trophy at the Delray Beach at the expense of James Blake. His last tournament was at the Queens where he took a set off Rafa Nadal. Nadal was taken to three sets and complimented the young player as a future member of the Top 10.

US Open surprise: Kei Nishikori

August 31, 2008

Kei Nishikori is making waves right now in the US Open. I first wrote about this player on my other blog when he took a set off Rafa Nadal. Right now, the Japanese tennis player is making heads turn once again after he defeated Juan Monaco and now, Spain’s David Ferrer. Ferrer was the fourth-seed in the event. The exploits of Nishikori is extra-special since he becomes the first Japanese man to reach the US Open fourth round. Asian tennis stars are rising with China’s women tennis players leading the charge. Li Na is one good player as well, and this was showcased at the recently concluded Beijing Olympics. Nishikori is ranked 126th in the world and the score 6-4 6-4 3-6 2-6 and 7-5.
