Great expectations

November 14, 2008

According to a recent survey,  Americans have great expectations on their new President. In a poll conducted by CNN/Opinion Research Corp, nearly two thirds of those surveyed say that Barack Obama will change the country for the better. For them, Barack Obama will make major accomplishments as president of the United States. Twenty five percent of those surveyed said that Obama won’t change the country and another 9 percent indicating that he will change the country for the worse. Simply put, the bar is set high for the Obama presidency. Barack Obama has an overall 75 percent favorable rating, making him the most popular president-elect in at least a quarter of a century.

McCain concedes, Obama makes history

November 5, 2008

John Mccain concedes defeat, and major news stations are projecting an Obama victory. The senator from Arizona urged all Americans to join him in congratulating Senator Barack Obama on his projected victory in the election.

Grant Park in Chicago is expected to celebrate. Let’s just read the analysis that will be provided by the mainstream media, well these things are just an extension of the nice words they have been heaping on the future President even before the election started. The election is just a coronation, well for me at least. The senator from Illinois have long clinched the presidency.

Media has favored Obama-study

November 1, 2008

Just today, the highly opinionated Bill O’Reilly of the O’Reilly Factor says that MSNBC as the most biased station in the US right now. Now here’s another study that suggests that McCain did not receive the fair media treatment from the media. So this is the Hillary Clinton complaint all over again. The new survey was conducted by the Center for Media and Public Affairs, and the survey looked at the coverage made by ABC, CBS and NBC. For the last two months, the evening newscasts in these channels reflected positively on Obama 65 percent of the time. For McCain? The senator from Arizona got 31 percent. Of the three stations, ABC submitted the more balanced coverage.

US Senate approves $700 billion bailout

October 2, 2008

Good thing the US Senate acted responsibly and at least approved the bailout. I may not be a Wall Street player, nor someone who has a PhD in management, finance and economics but I think the bailout is one measure in the right direction, no?

The US Senators approved the edited measure 74 against 25, including yes votes from Obama, McCain and Biden.

So funny that they are arguing that this will increase deficit, or it’s not right for the state to dip its fingers on private matters. But you know, this is a major crisis of the lone superpower/economic power on earth and not an ordinary crisis. So for extra-ordinary situations plaguing an extra-ordinary country, I guess extra-ordinary measures are needed as well.

As if this will matter to a lowly third world student/freelance writer like me? Haha. But then, props up for US Senators.
