Krauss and Robert Plant wins; On pregnant MIA

What was once considered as an unlikely union between a former member of rock band Led Zepelin and a bluegrass singer, Alison Krauss has managed to break expectations. Their team-up once again proved a hit and it was a prolific parnership as their song picked up Record of the Year for 2009 Grammys. The duo captured five Grammys on Sunday and the accolades include the citation for Album of the Year. This success by Robert Plant according to some could inspire others to follow the road taken by Robert Plant. For these observers, Nashville collaborations will now be seen in a different light. The last time that country-related songs that win the Grammys top album awards were the Dixie Chicks with their ‘Taking the Long Way’ and this happened in 2006 and the ‘O,Brother, Where Art Thou?’ movie soundtrack and this happeed in 2001.

And speaking of the pregnant MIA, she was still one of the major topics of the awards show well because she is visibly pregnant. The singer is nine months pregnant and she went on with the show. This move by the hot singer continued to make noises for her. MIA is born Mathangi Arulpragasm and she was considered as a genre-defying artist a few years ago. She was considered as an indie star after she move out of Sri Lanka at a very youn age due to her father’s involvement with a militant independence group. Her foothold in the indi music circles starterd to grew last year. Her song ‘Paper Planes’ was used in the movie ‘Pineapple Express’. The song did wonders for the trailer of the movie making the movie heavily anticipated back then. Many critics were satisfied when ‘Paper Planes was not part of the movie was only part of the ads and the trailers. But this song by MIA was made as part of the soundtrack for ‘SlumDog Millionaire’.

Paper Planes for Song of the Year

MIA’s release that was featured on Pineapple Express is nominated for Record of the Year for next year’s Grammys. The award will be given to the artist, the producer, the recording engineers and the mixers. The song by MIA is taken from Kala. If the song wins it, MIA will share the award with Diplo and Switch as the producer and the mixer. And the question is, will Paper Planes win it? Paper Planes has been my favorite song of the year. What’s yours?

Paper Planes: Song for the week

MIA

MIA

Here is one song that I like. I first heard this song over Magic 899 last week and I thought the song is cool. Then last night I was checking out the US Top movies for the week and one movie, Pineapple Express played this song. Then just this morning, I searched for the song online and found my song for the week. Will Paper Planes by MIA lasts for more than a week?

I have this weird activity when I was still in high school when I usually lists my Top 20 for the week. During that time, the song that spent the most weeks at number 1 was the song ‘Lost in Space’ by Lighthouse Family. The song features the guitar riff sample from the song of the The Clash, Straight from Hell. This was also covered by Rihanna, I am Sparticus and as the song called Tengazako by Esau Mwamwaya. The first thing that I noticed about the song is presence of the gun shots, which I think was a beauty but I know could be very problematic. And well, when I checked more about the background of the song the song indeed gained some criticism regarding the use of that gun sounds.
